Made-in-Canada health solutions

Hamilton Spectator article written by BI member Robert Pelton.

Sometimes a crisis can generate a great idea.

Just over a decade ago, Canadians were stunned by the SARS outbreak. Watching that huge impact, a group of scientists at McMaster and elsewhere came together to find tools to fend off the next infectious disease crisis. Thus the Sentinel Bioactive Paper Group was born.

In the beginning, we dreamed of taking everyday paper and adding ways to detect, repel or deactivate some of the world's most serious illnesses and toxins.

Paper seemed, to us, to be the perfect medium. It is portable, flexible and affordable. It is absorbent, and it doesn't break when you drop it.
